Taylor & Francis Group, an Informa business, publishes more than 2,500 journals and over 5,000 new books each year, offering a range of commercial services, including accelerated publishing, supplements, sponsored focus and reprints. The company recently acquired Dove Medical Press, which specialises in the publication of open access journals across the broad spectrum of science, technology and especially medicine.

What’s right in copyright and permissions? A question faced by authors and editorial teams alike. This presentation looks at the basics from a publisher’s perspective, covering topics such as: What is copyright? Who holds copyright? How you can apply for permissions to reuse content? while addressing the most common question: ‘Do I need permission?’. It discusses some examples of when permission is necessary and when permission is not required, with the aim of providing the initial information applicants will need for a permissions query or request. This will aid authors, medical writers and med comms teams to obtain the appropriate licenses for previously published or adapted content when preparing a manuscript for submission and publication.
