ABSTRACT:

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), Dublin was the venue for the 10th European continuing medical education (CME) Forum, attended by participants from 17 different countries representing industry, medical societies, accreditors and providers. The main themes of the meeting were grouped under the headings inward (educational design), outward (engaging with stakeholders and others) and onward (collaborations and partnerships going forwards), addressed via a combination of presentations, interactive workshops, posters and panel discussions, and making good use of online interactivity for audience engagement. The inward section sessions, which demonstrated the most practical guidance on how to develop CME, were consistently the most popular, alongside ‘Lunch with the learners’, in which stakeholders have the opportunity to hear the experience of end users of CME. Peri- and post-meeting evaluations highlighted an ongoing desire for continuing guidance on how to develop high quality, effective education, requests for an ‘Introduction to CME’ session, and calls for greater clarity of CME rules, roles and purposes, especially from regulators and accreditors.

A full report of the meeting is available online via the European CME Forum website and in the Journal of European CME.
