ABSTRACT:
In 2014, EASE decided to refocus its activities to ensure that it continued to provide the best service to its members. It first conducted a survey of its 450 members, on the basis on which it formulated a three-pillar strategy, to:
* improve global standards in the field
* raise the profile of science editors
* support professional development.
Relaunch of EASE’s website followed, along with the launch of a bespoke website for its journal, European Science Editing. Perhaps the best known of EASE’s other publications are its online Guidelines for Authors and Translators, now available in 24 languages and growing: Serbian and Vietnamese translations (made by EASE members, working on a voluntary basis) were added in 2015. European Science Editing is looking to expand its content, to make it more useful and informative, and to capture more editorial research, which is currently often published in disparate journals.
EASE is actively looking at developing better training support for editors – and at recruiting new members, in part through supporting existing regional chapters and local initiatives. Since January 2016, EASE has been producing a monthly e-newsletter for members, to provide information on activities and events of interest. EASE continues to work with other editorial organisations to advocate for higher quality editorial and scientific research. Its Gender Policy Group has recently completed guidelines for reporting of sex and gender equity in research (SAGER), and is now looking at gender bias on journal editorial boards.
