ABSTRACT:

ISMPP (pronounced izMap) is a professional society open to anyone involved in publication preparation and planning from the pharmaceutical industry and associated agencies, publishers, and institutions. ISMPP was formed in 2005 as a membership organisation dedicated to advancing the professional field of publication planning and the publication of biomedical research, with a view to inform, educate and encourage ethical publication practices in the professions. ISMPP’s mission is to advance the medical publication profession globally through promoting integrity and transparency in publications, improved standards and practices, and education, advocacy, and collaboration between professionals.

Over four-fifths of ISMPP members are from agencies and the pharma industry; a similar majority are from the USA, Canada and the UK, though significant numbers now come from China, Japan and India. Most members are involved in publication planning and/or medical writing, and many have roles in medical affairs, and/or editorial and scientific services. The cost of joining is competitive: $195/year, and $95 for the Asia-Pacific region and low-income countries.

ISMPP meetings are held annually in the USA, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region; the themes are regional, but the twin key objectives are the same: networking and sharing best practice. Educational workshops are available for an additional fee. ISMPP uniquely offers certified medical publication professional (CMPP) credentialing, which is open to those with two or more years’ publication planning experience. Many further resources can be accessed via the ISMPP website: http://www.ismpp.org/
